When I see this picture .. I don’t get upset. Honestly. Many years ago when I first encountered these images it would blow me out of the water. I have a collection of these types of images. With the net I can just go to Kinkos and print them out in all their colorful glory.
I stare at them , travel in time and try to imagine what it must be like…. to come up with those images. What was in the minds of the people that drew and painted them? (more…)
Wikipedia entry: “Osunlade was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He composed music for Sesame Street during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Afterward, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked with artists such as Patti Labelle and Freddie Jackson. After a stint there, he moved to New York, where he founded Yoruba Records. To date he has worked with such artists as Roy Ayers, Nkemdi, Salif Keita, and Cesária Évora. In 2006, he released an album titled Aquarian Moon, in 2007, he released an album titled Elements Beyond on the revived Strictly Rhythm Records, and, in 2009, he released the album Passage. He is a priest of the Yoruba religion of Ifá. Because of his beliefs, Osunlade’s music has a deep spiritual root in Yoruba traditions that are also reflected in the name of his record label, album covers, and also the titles of some of the tracks he has remixed such as “Obatala y Oduduwa” and “Yemeya.” ”

Since the debut of the Planet of the apes series it has been well acknowleged that the two ongoing themes have been race and technologies role in human …primate affairs.. Namely it has always addressed the subject of cataclysmic nuclear anihilation. The race element however always … always shows up. This entry into human affairs is as old as our primate past.. It is why there is a “missing link”… they were “decommissioned” and forgotten.. Sort of like the original inhabitants of New Zealand.. but I digress.
Whenever I get to this film , I will be prepared for the typical bleeding heart semi absolving reflection of our present age as we forge ahead on a steady course into the ever precarious unknown.
It is now the ape .. the inner ape who will guide us .. I suspect. (Anthony Hopkins in Instinct tried to make the same leap).
None the less.. once a symbol has become iconic from that point on.. it really only has one meaning …Ape power anyone ?
If you aren’t in tuned.. that isn’t suprising either.. now is it ?
